Adult Sunday School

We continue our study of the Gospel of Mark.  This is a very timely Bible study since our Gospel readings for this year are from Mark. It’s never too late to join us! Please plan to join us in the Luther Room immediately following the 8:30 am worship service.

Stewardship Corner

As Christian stewards, we serve God out of gratitude for all He’s given us, realizing that it’s not how much we have, but what we do with what we have this is important to God. In the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30), we find three servants who were entrusted by their master with varying numbers of talents. The third received only one and he buried it! His master called him wicked and lazy.  Knowing that the master is Jesus, what should we be doing with our talents?

CID Day at the Ballpark

As spring training rolls around, preparations are underway for the 14th annual CID Day at the Ballpark on Saturday, July 21st at 3:15 pm. The seats for this year’s contest between the Cubs and Cardinals will be in the Infield Terrace sections behind home plate. Cost per ticket is $40 (20% off of the premium game-day price of $50). Order forms will be available later this spring. Start getting your groups together so you can order your tickets early. First day to submit orders will be May 29th. For more information, visit CID day.

Bible Study with Pastor Heren:

Pastor Heren has begun the Bible study, “Walk Through the Book of Acts” Part 2 on Mondays beginning January 9th at 10 am and 7 pm. You can come the same time each week, or switch between the times if that works better for your schedule.

Men’s Retreat at Camp Cilca Feb. 24-26:

All able-bodied men (18 years and older) are invited to this event. All you need is a desire to serve Christ by cutting trees, fixing buildings, and splitting wood.  The cost is $25, which will help pay for the materials needed to accomplish these goals. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore God’s Word in morning and evening devotions and Bible Studies and conclude with a Sunday morning Worship Service. To register, email camp@cilca.org.

Winter Conference with Tracie Miles

Redeemer Lutheran Church is hosting a conference for women on Friday, February 24th and Saturday, February 25th. The guest speaker is international conference speaker and contributing writer for Proverbs 31 Ministries, Tracie Miles, who is also a contributing writer for P31 Woman Magazine and the author of one book, Reinventing Your Rainbow. She will be speaking on Whispers of Relief, Staying Afloat in a Sea of Stress and Jumping Overboard in Faith. Anyone interested can turn in their money to Trudy Heren and she will mail it.

Lutherans For Life

Every child is a wanted child, so no mother needs to feel like abortion is her only option. You might think that’s an obvious truth. It’s not. Less than two percent of single women facing unplanned pregnancies chose adoption. Far too many chose abortion … adoption is always a better choice than abortion. Please...share this important message, so more babies...can grow up knowing they, too, are wanted.

Scripture Notes

Jesus entered human history when He was born; He entered public ministry when He was baptized. But, the reality of His divinity was not revealed to His disciples until Jesus was transfigured before Elijah and Moses. This vision revealed to the disciples and to all believers the true divine nature of Jesus the Christ. As we bear His Word and receive Him under bread and wine, Jesus enteres our personal history today, with judgment, grace, glory and forgiveness. Soon, we plunge into Lent. But, for today, we focus on the revelation of our Savior as true man and true God.

Mission Moments:
Remember the Lord’s work in Russia as you pray for all Russian people who are affected by depression, loneliness, alcoholism, post-abortion syndrome and more. Pray that those who do not yet know Jesus Christ would come to faith, and would find peace and restoration in His forgiveness.

LWML—Save the Date:

June 2, 2012: LWML District Convention in Rock Island.  Watch for more information.

Holy Communion

The Lutheran Church confesses the “Real Presence” in the Sacrament of the Altar. This means that Christ Himself gives us His true Body and Blood in, with and under the bread and wine to all who commune. Receiving the Sacrament is, at the same time, serious, awesome and joyful.  In accordance with our Lutheran faith, attendance at the Lord’s Supper is a statement of unity in the Christian faith.
